Restaurants were hit especially hard during the COVID-19 pandemic, and just as the industry began to recover, a new set of challenges emerged. Restaurant operators were faced with rising inflation, input costs, labor challenges, and economic uncertainty as pandemic-driven consumer demand for seamless and efficient technology-enabled services became the new normal.
To help restaurants meet these demands, Toast announced enhancements to its mobile ordering, payments, and digital menu solutions, allowing both servers and guests to start and add to a tab and also introducing customizable digital menus by service area. By allowing both servers and guests to start and add to a tab from their mobile device, guests can order as they please without worry of waiting, while servers embrace a more rewarding role: welcoming guests, helping them choose the right menu items, checking in, and not having to spend time running to the point of sale and swiping credit cards.
Toast also launched Toast for Hotel Restaurants in May 2022 after realizing hotel restaurants truly needed a better POS integration with hotel property management systems. And in October 2022, Toast announced Toast Invoicing, which merges catering, events, and wholesale orders so restaurants can spend more time fulfilling all those orders and less time dealing with paperwork.
Most recently, Toast announced its Order with Google integration that allows restaurants using Toast Online Ordering to tap into millions of guests ordering food through Google Search and Maps.
